Nippon Life turns back on nuclear weapons manufacturers

Written by Adam Cadle

Japan’s life insurer, Nippon Life, will not invest in or finance nuclear weapons manufacturers under its new investment policy.

Its list had already included manufacturers of inhumane weapons such as cluster munitions and landmines, as well as coal-fired power generation programs for their impact on climate change.

Other businesses that have been newly added to the investment-ban-list include tobacco-related companies and also palm oil-related businesses, from the perspective of child labour and other human right issues.
