Gross yield on invested assets for US P&C industry increases to 3.6%

The US P&C insurance industry’s 2022 gross yield on invested assets increased to 3.6% from 3% a year earlier and 3.1% in 2020, according to AM Best.

Ranked by total admitted assets, the top five insurers retained their positions from the previous year. Top-ranked Berkshire Hathaway Insurance had $505bn in admitted assets and a gross yield on invested assets of 5.6%, up from 2.3% a year earlier.

No. 2 State Farm Group, with admitted assets of $245.86bn, had a gross yield on invested assets of 2.3%, the same as the previous year. At No. 3, Liberty Mutual Insurance Cos. had admitted assets of $118.53bn, while its gross yield on invested assets fell to 3.3% in 2022 from 3.7% a year earlier.

Traveler Group and Chubb INA Group made up the top five with admitted assets of $95.7bn and $89.6bn respectively.
