Unlisted private equity investment and hedge funds deliver for Varma

Varma delivered an investment return of 2.8% for the period January-September 2023, boosted by a strong performance from its unlisted private equity and hedge fund investments.

The latest investment return figure is up from -4.9% a year earlier. The value of the insurer’s investments was €57.5bn (€56.2bn on 1 January).

The return on private equity investments was 6.7%, hedge funds at 5% and listed equity investments at 2.9%. Fixed income investments returned 1.5% and real estate investments -2.6%.

Varma’s solvency ratio was 129.6% (130.5% on 1 Jan), and solvency capital was 1.7 times (1.8 on 1 Jan) the solvency limit.
