US life/health 2022 six-month admitted assets decrease by 6.1%

The total US life/health industry’s admitted assets of $8.1bn at the midpoint of 2022 represents a 6.1% drop compared with the same point in 2021, according to a new Best’s Rankings report.

Prudential of America Group held onto the top spot in the ranking, despite posting a 10.1% decrease during the period to $503.6bn. MetLife Insurance Cos., which retained the No. 2 position from a year earlier, also posted a drop with a 7.5% decrease to $426.9bn in admitted assets.

Athene US Life Group, which climbed to 18th from 22 a year earlier, notched the largest gain among the top 25 with its $165.9bn in admitted assets up by 11.5% compared to 2021. No. 9 ranked Jackson National Group saw the largest drop among the top 25 on percentage basis, with its $271.5bn down 15.7% from a year earlier.

The AM Best ranking measures admitted assets at the midpoint of 2022, as well as the change on a percentage basis.
