MAPFRE has decreased its overall carbon footprint by 26% compared to 2019, which is 22.5 points above the target set for 2022 (3.5%).
The decrease is due to the group’s efforts to continue moving towards the decarbonisation of the economy, not only through investing and underwriting, but also through measures to reduce the footprint of its direct operations. These include the restriction of fossil fuels and electricity and the use of renewable energy sources such as solar energy.
Recently, MAPFRE also informed the Net-Zero Insurance Alliance (NZIA) of its decision to discontinue its membership. The insurer said it remains committed to the deployment of its sustainability strategy, reaffirming the principles of contributing to an energy transition that sets people at the centre, as well as supporting clients throughout their own energy transition.
All public commitments announced by MAPFRE are maintained, including reaching net-zero emissions globally by 2050, or sooner if possible.
