Gothaer Asset Management, a division of the German insurer Gothaer, has issued a €500m mandate to invest in Dutch residential mortgages.
The Dutch institution, Syntrus Achmea Real Estate & Finance, announced that it was welcoming Gothaer Asset Management as the first foreign client to its residential mortgage fund.
The fund has more than 50 institutional investors, and its portfolio has grown significantly in recent years – reaching €8.6bn by the end of the final quarter of 2019. Achmea said it expects the fund to grow to more than €10bn over the next year.
Gothaer Asset Management CEO, Christof Kessler, commented: “Dutch mortgages give a further boost to the risk and return profile of our portfolio.
“Thanks to its extensive knowledge and experience of mortgage investments and its excellent results, Syntrus Achmea is the ideal partner for us. We look forward to our partnership with great confidence.”
Syntrus Achmea CEO, Arthur van der Wal, indicated that the firm was ‘proud’ to welcome Gothaer as a client.
“Last year we decided to open up two of our funds to foreign investors,” he added. “In addition to the healthcare real estate fund, the residential mortgage fund has now also welcomed its first foreign client: Gothaer Asset Management. This broadens the foundations of both funds, and that’s good news for all the participants.”
