German insurance company Gothaer is offsetting its remaining CO2 emissions through climate protection projects in countries in the global south.
“By offsetting the unavoidable emissions thorugh climate protection projects, the company achieves climate neutrality,” it said.
Gothaer supports a solar project in China and a wind energy project in Indonesia, which have been awarded gold standards.
The group accounts for emissions in accordance with the recognised Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) and will start with climate neutrality for the Cologne-Zollstock location from 2020. Its other locations will also gradually become CO2-neutral.
“In the future, we will draw up an annual carbon footprint for the Cologne headquarters and gradually expand this to all other locations,” Harald Epple, board member responsible for sustainability in the Gothaer Group said.
