Ares Insurance Solutions has appointed Anup Agarwal as a partner and its new head and chief investment officer (CIO).
Agarwal will work alongside newly appointed AIS chairman David Rilly and former AIS CIO, Rajesh Krishnan, who will transition his efforts to expanding third-party insurance asset management and origination.
He brings more than 25 years of investment experience to AIS, where he will lead the investing activities for Ares with respect to Aspida Holdings Ltd. (Aspida), a life insurance and annuity company with over $23bn in total assets, as of 30 June 2025, and for which AIS acts as its dedicated investment management, capital solutions and corporate development partner.
Agarwal will also support the continued expansion of AIS investment solutions for third-party insurance clients. He joins Ares from Global Atlantic Financial Group, where he most recently served as senior investment adviser after nearly six years as CIO and was responsible for managing its more than $200bn insurance platform and driving its investment capabilities in origination, structuring, execution and management across all asset classes.
Prior to joining Global Atlantic Financial Group in 2019, Agarwal served as head of structured credit and loan strategy at Western Asset Management.
