The gross yield on invested assets for US P&C insurers increased to 3.6% in 2023, AM Best has revealed.

Berkshire Hathaway held 57.2% or $321.93bn of invested assets in non-affiliated common stocks last year, far greater than other top P&C insurers as ranked by total admitted assets.

The carrier with the second-highest proportion of non-affiliated common stocks among top insurers was State Farm Group with 37.2% or $98.8bn.

Overall, just seven of the 30 carriers with the greatest total admitted assets held more than 10% of assets in non-affiliated common stock.
