US P&C industry records 6.4% increase in net investment income

The US P&C industry has recorded a 6.4% increase in net investment income in H1 2021, compared with the same prior-year period, AM Best has reported.

A $10.4bn increase in realised capital gains contributed to industry net income growth of 57.9% to $38.1bn.

Net underwriting income grew by 28% in the same period and a 5.4% growth in net earned premiums was also witnessed.

The combined ratio for the industry improved by 0.8 percentage points from H1 2020 to 96.9%.
