The board of supervisors of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) has elected Stavros Konstantas to its management board.

Konstantas is director of occupational and private insurance supervision at the Bank of Greece, and his term on the management board will last for two and a half years, with the option of an additional two-and-a-half-year term.

He replaces Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency president, Ante Žigman, on the board, after Žigman was appointed as governor of the Croatian National Bank.

EIOPA’s management board consists of the EIOPA chairperson and six representatives of national supervisory authorities.

The management board is made up of EIOPA chairperson, Petra Heilkema; BaFin chief executive director for insurance and pension funds supervision, Julia Wiens; De Nederlandsche Bank member of the executive board, Gita Salden; French Prudential Supervision and Resolution Authority first deputy secretary general, Evelyne Massé; Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority chief adviser – insurance, Teija Korpiaho; Central Bank of Hungary director of insurance and pension funds supervision directorate, and Konstantas.

The board's role is to ensure that EIOPA accomplishes its mission and fulfils its assigned tasks.

A European Commission representative, currently the European Commission director, Ugo Bassi, and an EIOPA executive director also attend the meetings of the management board.
