H1 2024 global insurance M&A transaction activity hit a new 15 year low for first half activity, a new report from Clyde & Co has revealed.
Buyers being selective, and sellers waiting for better market conditions are the reasons behind this low activity. The number of transactions completed in H1 2024 decreased by 40% to 103 compared to H1 2023 (171). The previous low point was in H1 2013 at 162 deals.
The Brookfield Reinsurance acquisition of AEL for $3.578bn is the largest deal completed in 2024 thus far.
Six billion-dollar transactions have closed in the first half of the year, three in the US, two in Asia and one in Europe.
There were 34 cross-border transactions, focused on Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
